National Cycle Route 8 runs the length of Wales, from Cardiff (or Chepstow) through Bannau Brycheiniog, the hills of Mid Wales and Eryri to the Menai Strait and Holyhead on Anglesey — a big, hilly, beautiful tour on quiet lanes and traffic-free trails.

Start, parking & getting there
The main southern start is Cardiff Bay, with a Chepstow alternative that joins the main route at Glasbury in the Wye Valley; Holyhead is the northern end. Cardiff, Chepstow and Holyhead are all on the rail network, and stations along the way (for example Machynlleth, Porthmadog and Bangor) make it easy to split the route. Transport for Wales and other operators have limited bike spaces and may require or recommend reservations, so book before you go, especially in summer.
