Start — Horton-in-Ribblesdale
Most walkers start in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, which has a railway station on the Settle–Carlisle line (the most sustainable option) and a car park that fills early. The usual anticlockwise route tackles Pen-y-ghent (694 m) first, with a steep, rocky scramble up its southern nose.
